BAPHR Foundation awards grants to not-for-profit agencies in the Bay Area during annual grant cycles.  We have donated over $2.3 million dollars to agencies with demonstrated commitment to LGBTI health and wellness since 1986.

BAPHR Foundation does not fund capital campaigns, laboratory research or individual medical expenses.  Up to 15% of awarded grant monies can be applied to administrative costs including salaries, rent, utilities and insurance.  Grant applications are judged based on merits including potential to achieve LGBTI health goals.

Grants Committee is excited to kick off the 2024 grant cycle for the BAPHR Foundation. BAPHR Foundation was established with a steadfast commitment to advancing health and healthcare equity for the LGBTQ community in the Bay Area. In keeping with this vision, the BAPHR Board is determined to forge partnerships with San Francisco Bay Area LGBTQ+ organizations to better serve our community.

This year, our focus remains on those who are most vulnerable among us, including LGBTQ+ adolescents, seniors, individuals grappling with challenging immigration statuses, and those dealing with mental health and addiction and substance use issues.

In our ongoing dedication to the LGBTQ+ community, we will have allocated grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 to nonprofit agencies that work to enhance the health and wellness of LGBTQ+ individuals. The selection process will be highly competitive, with applications thoroughly reviewed by the entire board. We anticipate announcing the recipients in early October 2024.

Eligibility criteria for grant applicants are as follows:

1. Be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency.

2. Propose funding for a project directly contributing to the health and wellness of the LGBTQ+ community.

3. Grants will not be awarded for capital campaigns, laboratory research, or individual medical expenses.

4. A maximum of 15% of grant funds may be allocated to administrative costs, including salaries, rent, utilities, and insurance.

All grantees must submit a written follow up form to improve accountability with our donors and the community.  Failure to complete this documentation within 6 months of receiving funds will result in ineligibility for the next grant cycle.
